My N

My Nguyen, Principal and Director of IT

At AG Consulting Partners, we are honored to work with a diverse group of people with a variety of talents and interests. This month, we are highlighting My Nguyen, to learn more about his work and passions outside of the office. As we enter 2020, we celebrate My’s fantastic work at AG Consulting Partners with a promotion! My is now a Principal in our Expert Workforce, and our internal Director of IT.

What’s your background? Where did you grow up and go to school?
I was born in Cleveland and then moved to Kent when I was a kid. I lived in Edmonds for a few years and have now settled back in Kent with my family. I went to school at the University of Washington for one year and they went to Highline Community College for three years. During that time, I was unsure of what I wanted to do and didn’t end up completing my degree, but am motivated to continue working on it down the road.

What are you most excited about working at AG Consulting Partners?
I love the people. When I come into the office, I always end up in an engaging conversation with someone. Everyone likes to connect, and I am super excited about my work family (literally everyone at AG).

What’s one interesting thing about you we should all know?
I am married with two kids and I live in suburbia. These are all things I didn’t want for my life in my 20s, but I was completely wrong about all of it!

What is the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career so far?
Have confidence and know that you belong; if there is any question, put those to rest with the quality of your work.

Have you ever taken an unusual or difficult job along the way? How did you confront it?
In situations that are totally new and a bit shocking, I do everything I can to learn about all of the elements of that new job and the obstacles it presents. When I first started with AG a few years ago, I was in a corporate retail stores team and it was totally new for me. I was out of my element and lacking exposure to the meetings, culture and industry, although I had the knowledge and skills required.

My key to success was leveraging my ability to connect with people to build relationships. I sat down with folks and had real conversations; this helped me to win people over and eventually elevate my work. In the end, being confident and “faking it til you make it” can really help you grow into a new, unfamiliar space.
